1. Policy Statement and Core Commitment
Champions of Destiny Foundation operates at Elms Community Centre, Whitefield M45 7FD, providing Food Pantry and Digital Café services while strictly adhering to Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency CSSA guidelines. We are committed to a safe, compliant environment for all.
2. Key Safeguarding Principles
Our operations focus on:
- Dignity and Respect: Treating all visitors as individuals of infinite worth.
- Proactive Prevention: Maintaining professional boundaries to prevent abuse or exploitation.
- Prompt Response: Swift, compassionate action if a child or vulnerable adult is at risk.
- Safe Recruitment: Vetting and training all volunteers.
3. Definitions and Risks
Safeguarding covers all individuals with care needs and those under 18. We train volunteers to identify signs of abuse, including neglect, exploitation, and financial, emotional, or physical harm.
4. Operational Boundaries
- Official Channels Only: No personal contact details, phone numbers, or private social media to be used by volunteers.
- No Private Meetings: All support occurs during public, scheduled hours at the community centre.
- Pastoral Sensitivity: Support is non-judgmental and non-coercive.
- Professional Boundaries: Volunteers must never provide medical, legal, or financial advice.
5. Procedure for Handling Disclosures or Crisis
Upon receiving a disclosure, staff must:
- Listen: Calmly record details, ensuring the individual feels heard.
- Disclose Limitations: Advise that confidentiality cannot be kept if a child or vulnerable adult is in danger.
- Act Immediately: Report to the DSL, Grace Attu, within 2 hours, or call 999 for emergency danger.
- Referral: The DSL will report to the relevant authorities, such as Bury Children’s or Adult Social Care MASH, within 24 hours.
6. Safer Recruitment and Training
- Vetting: Enhanced DBS checks, two references, and formal applications are required.
- Training: Mandatory safeguarding training must be completed before volunteers start their roles.
7. Compliance and Review
This policy is audited and reviewed annually by the Board of Trustees.
